Set in the heart of the North Downs, The New Flying Horse in Wye is the kind of place where boots by the door and tails wagging in the hallway mean you’ve arrived somewhere special - somewhere that demonstrates fantastic Kentish hospitality.
Whether you're a rambler, a wine-lover, a weekend walker - or just a fan of a great pint after a long dog walk - you’ll find plenty to explore (and sniff out) from our front door.
Wye National Nature Reserve - Kent Wildlife Trust
Our most popular route begins and ends at the pub. If you pop in, we have maps printed and left just by the door. We also have fresh water and biscuits for good boys and girls... four-legged ones, that is!
This circular trail leads up past the Wye crown, a historic chalk carving, before sweeping along the ridge to the breathtaking Devil’s Kneading Trough. It’s one of the best walks in Kent - big skies, panoramic views.
National Trail: North Downs Way
The New Flying Horse sits right on the North Downs Way, one of England’s most beautiful long-distance trails. Whether you're walking a small section or planning something more ambitious, our pub is the ideal stop en route: comfy rooms, hearty food, local beer, and dogs welcome throughout.
Part of the North Downs Way encompasses the Pilgrims Way - an historical route used by pilgrims travelling to Canterbury Cathedral and a very popular hiking route, with many modern day "pilgrims" seen in the village during all seasons, perhaps stopping off on their way to France.
Visit Canterbury | Visit Folkestone | Eurotunnel Le Shuttle
We're just 12 minutes by train from the heart of Canterbury, home to its stunning cathedral, cobbled lanes, and rich cultural life. Better still, Wye has its own train station, connecting directly to both Canterbury and London.
For coast lovers, Folkestone, Hythe, and Sandgate are all under half an hour’s drive, and the Channel Tunnel is close enough for spontaneous day trips to France.
Gusbourne Estate Wines | Ashford Designer Outlet | Chilham Village | Port Lympne Safari Park
This part of Kent is full of hidden gems. Visit timeless villages like Chilham, Crundale, and Brook, our very own chocolate box villages.
Or venture 25 minutes south to Gusbourne Estate to taste some of England’s finest sparkling wines, grown right here in the perfect conditions of the Kent countryside.
Just 15 minutes away, the Ashford Designer Outlet offers over 100 brands, great food spots, and big savings - perfect for a retail fix between pub walks.
If animals are your thing we have the fantastic Port Lympne Safari Park a short drive away.
It doesn't get more friendly than this.
We are in the middle of dog walking country, and we’ve built the pub around that. Fires in winter, a big beer garden in summer, dog treats behind the bar, and a team who know their cockapoos from their cocker spaniels.
Whether you’re staying for a weekend or just stopping in after a muddy walk, you and your dog will always be welcome at The New Flying Horse.
We’ll have your map - and your water bowl - ready.
